Job Summary:
The Career Counselor will be responsible for providing comprehensive career counseling services to students within the educational institution. This role involves assisting students in identifying and exploring career options, developing career goals, and creating individualized plans to achieve those goals. The Career Counselor will collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to enhance students' career development and support their successful transition into post-secondary education or the workforce.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct individual and group career counseling sessions to assist students in assessing their skills, interests, and values to make informed career decisions.
2. Administer and interpret various career assessment tools to help students gain self-awareness and identify suitable career paths.
3. Provide guidance and resources to students on educational and vocational programs, including college/university admissions, scholarships, apprenticeships, and vocational training.
4. Develop and implement career development activities, workshops, and events to enhance students' understanding of various occupations and industries.
5. Collaborate with teachers and parents to develop career-related curriculum and integrate career exploration into academic coursework.
6. Assist students in creating resumes, writing cover letters, and developing job search strategies.
7. Coordinate and facilitate job shadowing, internships, and work-based learning experiences to provide students with hands-on exposure to different career fields.
8. Stay up-to-date on labor market trends, industry demands, and educational requirements for various careers to provide accurate and relevant information to students.
9. Maintain confidential student records, including career assessments, counseling sessions, and progress reports.
10. Attend professional development seminars, conferences, and workshops to enhance counseling skills and stay informed on best practices in career counseling.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
2. Valid state certification or licensure as a School Counselor.
3. Proven experience in providing career counseling services to students, preferably in an educational setting.
4. Strong knowledge of career development theories, vocational assessment tools, and career exploration resources.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with students, parents, and educational staff.
6. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and effectively address the career development needs of students from various backgrounds.
7. Demonstrated ability to organize and facilitate career-related events, workshops, and activities.
8. Proficiency in using technology and online resources for career exploration and job searching.
9. Ethical and professional conduct in maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards of counseling.
10. Flexibility to adapt to changing student needs and evolving educational and career landscape.
